MAGGIE BELL
Perhaps the UK's greatest female vocalist, Maggie Bell started playing the clubs in Scotland and Air Force bases across Europe with her band Power, which featured Alex Harvey’s brother Les as lead guitarist.
Late in 1969, they were spotted by Peter Grant, who not only signed them to his management but also changed their name to Stone The Crows and secured them a deal with Polydor.
The band’s career was tragically cut short when Les Harvey died on stage in 1972.
Bell later picked up the pieces, and Jimmy Page ensured she was one of the first artists signed to his new label, Swan Song.
Page played guitar on two tracks from her debut Swan Song album 'Suicide Sal' (1975): “If You Don’t Know” and “Comin’ On Strong.”
His solo work on these tracks is widely praised for its soulful expressiveness and stands as a testament to the close artistic partnership between Page and Bell at Swan Song.
