CHRIS FARLOWE
Tottenham skiffle star Chris Farlowe, a major figure on the London music scene from the late '50s, rose to further fame thanks to Andrew Oldham and The Rolling Stones.
Many of Farlowe’s Immediate Records singles and albums feature Jimmy Page as session guitarist, joining an impressive ensemble that also included John Paul Jones, Nicky Hopkins, and Big Jim Sullivan.
Mick Jagger often produced these recordings, with Page especially prominent on hits like “Out of Time” (1966), where he plays acoustic guitar.
The Page-Farlowe collaboration dates back even further: in 1961, Jimmy Page produced and played on Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds’ first-ever 12-song demo session, now released as The Beginning…, marking Page’s debut as a producer.
Farlowe remained a close musical associate over the decades, singing on Page’s solo albums: Death Wish II (1982), where his blues vocals stand out among the soundtrack’s rock arrangements, and on Outrider (1988).
